Sounders FC: A Victory for Democracy
The Seattle MLS team is named
By Chuck Davis
The Scene was Set Well
The place for the team-naming ceremony was at the Space Needle on Monday, April 7, 2008. For many Seattle soccer fans, current and former Seattle Sounders, local and national media and people affiliated with the 2009 Seattle MLS organization the excitement and anticipation was high. It was a cool and cloudy Seattle day and we were assembled in the lower restaurant level. The space was well set up by the organizers of this event.
Over 100 chairs were set up theater style, there were dozens of cameras of all kinds and shapes, and recording devices of many varieties all poised to see and hear what name had been chosen for the new MLS team. Many attendees already knew what was about to be announced and many others knew intuitively what the moniker would be. The conversations were spirited and upbeat.
